Manchester City has completed a £34m signing attacking midfielder Matisse Rayan Sherki from Lyon.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract until the summer of 2030. Serki contributed 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 games in various events last season.

Cerki was impressed on the French debut last Thursday, scoring a stunning goal in the National League semi-final loss to Spain. Cherki arrived in time to become part of the Manchester City Club World Cup squad, with Guardiola's side kicking off their season on June 18 against Morocco's Wydad AC in Philadelphia.

Cherki became Manchester City's third player in the summer, after Wolves left-back Rayan Ait Nuri and Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Betinelli joined, all three new players can participate in the Club World Cup.

Sherky: This is a fantastic move

Many top European clubs are reportedly interested in Sherky, but revealing that Manchester City's "project" is an important factor in his transfer from Lyon to Etihad Stadium. He said: "It was a dream for me. Honestly, joining a club like Manchester City and having the opportunity to take the next step in my career here is very, very special. "I have been working hard for it all my life. I love the sport and I can’t wait to develop further in Manchester with Pep and his behind-the-scenes staff.

"Everyone knows how good Manchester City is, and they have been so successful for years. The responsibility to help the team continue to win is something I want to accept. "I will just leave Lyon to do a project I really believe in, and everything at Manchester City shows that I can grow my game and help the team succeed in the future. "I can't wait to show Manchester City fans what I can do.

Manchester City Football Director Hugo Viana added: "We are very happy that Rayan is here. We want to bring top talent to the club, and he falls into this category.

"He is a player our scout has been following for a long time and we are all impressed by his skills and creativity. I believe our fans will be happy to see his game. "No doubt he is in the best position to further develop now under Guardiola's guidance and I really believe he can become a world-class player with our support and guidance." ”
