Curry University coach: There was an opponent who wanted to win him off but he didn t care about scoring and was willing to sacrifice for the team

On August 22, according to clutchpoints, Warriors star Stephen Curry's mentor Bob McKillop shared an interesting story, which occurred in a game against Loyola in November 2008.

"Curry was already the number one scorer in the United States in his junior year," McKelope said. "And Loyola's coach decided to leave his name in history by simply blocking Stephen Curry."

Loyola adopted the "two-focused three-unit" defensive tactic against Curry at that time. Two defensive players followed Curry in the whole game, while the other three defensive players implemented regional joint defense against the rest of Davidson Academy players.

When the first half was about 16 minutes old, Curry walked towards the coach's seat. McKelope clearly remembers the star's words at that time.

"He came to the bench and said, 'Coach, the opponent sent two people to defend me. I can stand in the corner of the midfield and let those two stare at me. So we can form a four-on-three-I don't care if I can score.'"

Davidson Academy finally won 78-48. But Loyola's tactics did succeed: Curry didn't score a single point in the whole game.

"He made sacrifices for the team," McKelope emphasized, "this clearly reflects the basic principle of his life, career and personal beliefs: sacrifices will eventually pay off."

McKelope also revealed a detail. Since Curry almost stood in the midfield and did nothing throughout the game, he felt a little bored and began to look around.

"Someone is eating popcorn in the pressroom," McKillo added. "He said to his teammate Joey, 'Hey Joey, can I give me some popcorn?' He loved popcorn the most, so he ate snacks in the second half. And we ended up winning 30 points." (NBA official website)
