According to Jack Fischer of The Stein Line, sources said the Mavericks are seeking to bring in a "capable starter". Fischer added that the player may be in a “supplementary role” after Kyrie Irving returns from injury as the defender will recover from ACL surgery in the months beginning the season.

Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson will become the starters of the Mavericks' 2025-26 season. Assuming the Mavericks don't trade the No. 1 pick, Cooper Flag is expected to join the starting rotation.
