Mike Muscala, thin technical inside line
1:44pm, 26 July 2025【Basketball】
Everyone should still remember Mike Muscala, the thin technical insider who just retired in 24 years.
Mike Muscala, Mike Muscala, 6-foot-11 inches (211 cm) tall, plays as center (C). She was born in July 1991 in St. Louis County, bordering Canada in northeastern Minnesota, USA. She was produced by Bucknell University. She was selected by the Dallas Mavericks (now known as the Dallas Mavericks) team in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft. She was immediately traded to the Atlanta Hawks to start her NBA career.
After playing in the NBA for nearly 11 seasons, Mike Muscala has played for seven teams, namely the Hawks, 76ers, Lakers, Thunder, Celtics, Wizards and Pistons. He played in a total of 548 games in the regular season, including 45 starts, averaging 14.7 minutes per game, scoring 5.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.5 blocks. He played in a total of 35 games in the playoffs and failed to get a starting opportunity. He averaged 8.5 minutes per game, scoring 2.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.1 steals and 0.2 blocks.
As a space-type inside, Mike Muscara has a good three-point shooting rate. He has a fast shooting speed and a high stability in receiving and shooting. He can open up space for the team. It is a point that the opponent dares to let go easily. Moreover, his offensive methods are diverse. In addition to three-pointers, he also has a certain mid-range shooting ability and is also skilled in low-post offensive skills. At the same time, he has good ball-holding ability, can do hand-hand fake moves on the periphery, and has certain support skills, and can participate in the team's tactical cooperation. He has high defense enthusiasm and good awareness of defense. He will actively participate in supplementary defense. With his height advantage, he also has certain frame protection ability.
However, Muscala lacks athletic ability, slow pace, average bounce ability, and not outstanding in confrontation. She is easily beaten or broken through by opponents. It is difficult to effectively limit the opponent's shooting with the ball after switching defense. Moreover, the rebounding ability is not outstanding among players in the same position, and lacks sufficient strength and explosive power to compete for rebounds. When facing tall and strong inside players, she is often at a disadvantage in rebounding competition, especially the single offensive role is mainly based on fixed-point shooting, with low offensive frequency, lacking the ability to independently create scoring opportunities, and it is difficult to open up the situation through personal abilities when the team's offense is in trouble.
Although his career statistics are mediocre, Mike Muscala has also played some good game performances. On March 31, 2015, local time in the United States, in the Atlanta Hawks lost to the Detroit Pistons 95:105 away, Mike Muscara played for 24 minutes on the bench, scored 6 points and 1 assist, and captured the highest 13 rebounds in a single game in the NBA career. On April 9, 2023, in the Boston Celtics' 120:114 home game, Mike Muscala started for 33 minutes, making 9 of 13 shots (including 4 of 7 three-pointers), and 5 of 7 free throws, scoring the highest single-game 27 points in NBA career, plus 8 rebounds and 2 assists. After the 2023-2024 season, Mike Muscara decided to retire and bid farewell to the NBA arena. According to Joel Lorenzi, a reporter from the Oklahoman, Mike Muscara plans to continue her studies after retirement and pursue a master's degree in sports management. In the future, he plans to pursue a basketball coaching career or strive to join the team's management, and apply the basketball knowledge and experience he has accumulated over the years to new fields.
