Russell Westbrook is only 506 points away from becoming the highest-scoring point guard in NBA history

According to Gautam Varyl, a contributor to the US Sports F/W, Russell Westbrook has not tasted the ultimate glory in the NBA yet, but he has set many records and is about to set another record. Westbrook has scored 26,205 points so far in his 17-year NBA career, and only needs another 506 points to surpass Oscar Robertson and become the highest-scoring point guard in NBA history.

Robertson ended his Hall of Fame career with 26,710 points in 14 seasons. Beyond his record would be a great feat, and Westbrook has broken one of his records, which seemed unreachable at some point. Robertson has achieved an astonishing 181 triple-double in his career, and no one has approached that number in decades. Then there’s Westbrook, who surpassed him in 2021. He has now had 203 triple-doubles.

Westbrook faced a lot of criticism throughout his career, but it is undeniable that he is a statistical miracle. Apart from his scoring achievements, the 36-year-old has recorded 9,925 assists, ranking eighth in history. Sending another 75 assists would put Westbrook on LeBron James’ ranks as the only player in NBA history to score at least 25,000 points and 10,000 assists. Over the years, his high-level scoring and offensive ability is not what we see from too many people.

This allowed Westbrook to win two scoring champions and three assists champions in his career. Only one player in NBA history has won these two championships multiple times, and that is his former teammate James Harden. While Harden still performed strongly in the NBA, Westbrook found himself watching outside. The nine-time All-Star is still a free agent today, and his former teammate Patrick Beverly believes it is disrespectful. Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks per game for the Denver Nuggets in 2024-25. He is no longer a superstar he once was, but he can still be a viable option on the bench.

The Sacramento Kings are predicted to be Westbrook's next destination, but things have been quiet lately. We pointed out that the Miami Heat is a team that could consider bringing him in, and they have since announced that Taylor Herro was absent for eight weeks after undergoing knee surgery. So, will the Heat take this path? Well, only time will give the answer. If Westbrook does get selected by a team, he is expected to surpass Robertson in 2025-26 and join James’ exclusive club.

But the current situation is that there are not many teams interested in Westbrook, except for the Kings who have been reported before and the Heat, Knicks, and Pacers who have been interested in it recently, there has been no substantial progress. The new season will also start in 10 days. Can Westbrook continue to continue his career in the NBA to achieve great milestones? Do you think it is possible?
