Shams: Another winner in life! Bulls and coach Billy Donovan reach multi-year contract extension

3:07am, 29 July 2025【Basketball】

Sources told ESPN on Sunday that Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan has renewed his contract with the team for many years.

Sources told ESPN that the Bulls and Donovan began negotiations at the end of last season and continued conversations through the offseason plan, the New York Knicks' brief pursuit of Donovan, draft, free agent and summer league through the week.

Although the Bulls struggled under Donovan, the team attaches great importance to his strong leadership at all levels of the team. He will enter his sixth season in Chicago in 2025-26, and will coach 800 NBA games in his career. He averaged 195-205 points in his career in Chicago and 438-362 in his 10 seasons as NBA head coach. Donovan has one year left on his contract, and he led the Bulls to a second best record of 39 wins and 43 last season, ranking ninth in the Eastern Conference but lost for the third straight year in the play-offs.

The Bulls have only made one appearance in the playoffs in the past five seasons.

Donovan, who won two national titles in Florida before entering the NBA, will be awarded the Naismith Basketball Celebrity Memorial at a ceremony held on September 5-6 at the Mojigan Sun Stadium in Encasville, Connecticut and the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

In 2015, he left college basketball and coached the Oklahoma City Thunder. He once led the Thunder third junior Durant Westbrook Harden to the NBA Finals to join the Bulls in 2020.

Donovan began his coaching career with Rick Pitino of Kentucky from 1989 to 1993.

I wonder if his annual salary can reach tens of millions of yuan? Currently, the coaches in NBA9 positions annual salary of tens of millions are as follows:

ranking Coaches Team Annual salary (USD)

1 Steve Cole Golden State Warriors 17.5 million

2 Greg Popovich San Antonio Spurs 17 million (retired)

3 Eric Spoelstra Miami Heat 15 million

3 Tyron Lou Lock Los Angeles Clippers 15 million

5 Michael Malone Denver Nuggets 12 million (laid off)

6 Doug Rivers Milwaukee Bucks 11 million

Tom Thibodeau New York Knicks 11 million (laid off)

8 Mike Budenholzer Phoenix Suns 10 million (laid off)

9 Uduka Houston Rockets' annual salary of tens of millions is unknown

But to be honest, the first one of these tens of millions of young head coaches is the most unworthy of being Tyron Bass, the second Rivers, the third Cole, and the fourth Uduka! If the Rockets' lineup is given to Donovan, the finals are not dreams
