Fitzdale is experienced as a coach. He has served as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego and California State University Fresno. In 2003, Fitzdale started his NBA coaching career, serving as assistant coach for the Warriors, Hawks, Heat, Lakers and Suns. He served as head coach for the Grizzlies and the Knicks, and won two championships with the Heat. In addition, Fitzdale also worked for the Jazz and served as the team's deputy general manager.
