The Lakers officially announced layoffs! A new lineup is released! The championship list is finalized!

On the last day of the regular season countdown, the Lakers once again officially announced:

They have waived four players: Augustus Marchulionis, RJ Davis, Nate Williams, and Anton Watson.

It is worth discussing behind the departure of these people. Several of them are marginal water coolers, but they also have high-quality combat capabilities that have performed well in the preseason. But even so, the Lakers still let them go as they say. The authenticity of this operation is still somewhat doubtful.

Of course, these four players are participating in the Lakers training camp this season with non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts, which are short-term trial training contracts. On the last day of the regular season, the Lakers officially announced today that they will all be sent to the free market. With the release of the layoff list, the Lakers' 17-man roster for the new season is officially released:

14 people with standard contracts: James, Doncic, Rui Hachimura, Reeves, Vanderbilt, Vincent, Kleber, Ayton, Laravia, Smart, Knect, Hayes, Browne, Tiero;

3 people with two-way contracts: Ko Rocco, Manon, Nick Smith Jr.;

The core team is still led by James and Doncic, plus Rui Hachimura, Reeves, Vanderbilt, and Ayton are in stable rotation. Although this set of paper strength will not reach the absolute championship level, looking at the Western Conference, it is at least a very competitive team.

But the question comes back to this layoff list. Are these laid-off young people really useless?

First, let’s take a look at RJ Davis.

As a small guard with a height of 1.83cm, he was the best player in the ACC before entering the league. In his last year at the University of North Carolina, he also averaged 17.2 points and 3.6 assists per game.

When the Lakers signed the contract, not many people paid attention to the deal. However, in the preseason, the little man became a stable highlight of the Lakers bench, averaging 10 points in 14 minutes per game and shooting 66.7% from the field. After a very good performance, the Lakers chose to waive him, which is indeed a pity for the fans.

But the problem is very realistic. The Lakers are currently close to the top line of wealthy players, and there is no room to sign one more person. It can only be said that Davis did not appear at the right time, and he may still get another chance in the future.

The second one is Marciulionis, a basketball star from Lithuania.

Before entering the NBA, this guard won two West Coast Conference MVPs at St. Mary's College. He averaged 14.2 points, 5.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game in college. He is a comprehensive guard who can control, pass and defend.

But unfortunately, the Lakers' back line is so crowded that he didn't even get a chance to play for one minute during the Lakers' preseason. As a guard in the training camp, there is a high probability that he will go to the South Bay Lakers of the Development League to play.

As for the remaining Nate Williams and Anton Watson, one is a defender and one is a forward.

Compared with the first two newcomers, the latter two are both familiar players in the NBA. They played for the Rockets and Knicks respectively last season, but they played very little time in the Lakers preseason and basically played a sparring role. From the perspective of regular rotation, the current Lakers do not lack this type of players. After the rotation of frontcourt forces such as Rui Hachimura, Vanderbilt, Kleber, and Ayton, Watson simply cannot squeeze in.

As for Nate Williams, he is even more competitive on the back line.

After the dust has settled on the team's lineup, the regular season lineup is close to the upper limit, and the team still has one vacant spot; however, due to salary space constraints, it is expected to wait until January next year before looking for new players to fill it.
