Who has the best roster of former teammates in his career? (John Stockton)

1:17pm, 15 October 2025【Basketball】

John Stockton was born in Spokane, Washington on March 26, 1962. He plays the position of point guard on the court. In the 1984 draft, Stockton was selected by the Jazz with the 16th overall pick in the first round. He played for the Utah Jazz for all 19 years of his career! In his career, he was selected to the All-Star 10 times, to the All-NBA Team 11 times (First Team x 2, Second Team x 6, Third Team x 3), 5 times to the All-Defensive Team (Second Defense x 5), and won the regular season assists title 9 times and the regular season steals title 2 times.

Stockton scored a total of 19,711 points in his career, ranking 53rd in the all-time scoring list, with 15,806 assists, ranking first in the all-time assists list, and 3,265 steals, ranking first in the all-time steals list. As the template for point guards in the minds of the three fat men, Stockton can be called the representative player who interprets the word point guard to the extreme! His career rankings in assists and total steals will remain in the history of the NBA for a long time.

Without further ado, the level of Stockton’s former teammates’ lineup is not something you and I can tell! What is right and what is wrong, we let the data speak for itself!

So this issue of the Three Fats will continue this new series - taking stock of who has the best former teammates in their career? (PS: Former teammates naturally do not include current teammates, so as to avoid the flooding of the comment area, they are marked in bold!!!)

Starting lineup:

Point guard: Jeff Hornacek

Two partners team: Utah Jazz

Duo partnership time: 7 seasons (93-94, 94-95, 95-96, 96-97, 97-98, 98-99, 99-00)

Number of partnership periods According to: 14.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.2 blocks

Peak season data: 20.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.0 steals, 0.4 blocks (91-92 season, too Yang)

Career Honors: 1-time All-Star

Three Fatty Brief Comments: In recent years, Hornacek has been well-known mainly because of his status as the "national father-in-law", but Hornacek in his player days was also an out-and-out All-Star! Although Hornacek plays the shooting guard next to Stockton, Hornacek who was with the 76ers and Suns in the early years was the team's unwavering playmaker! There's nothing wrong with using this All-Star as a guest star at the No. 1 position among Stockton's former teammates, right?

Shooting guard: John Drew

Partner team: Utah Jazz

Duration of partnership: 1 season (84-85)

Data during partnership: 16.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.1 blocks

Peak season statistics: 24.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.4 blocks (76-77 season, Hawks)

Career honors: 2-time All-Star

Three fat comments: Regarding Drew's career, there has been constant controversy since his illegal possession of drugs. As the first player in NBA history to be banned for life due to drug abuse, Drew was still able to average 16 points per game in the last season of his career... At the peak of his career, Drew was consecutively selected as an All-Star, but he eventually fell to the feet of cocaine. And this is something we should take a lesson from and set a good example for our “anti-drug” propaganda!

Small forward: Adrian Dantley

Partner team: Utah Jazz

Duration of partnership: 2 seasons (84-85, 85-86)

Data during partnership: 28.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.1 blocks

Peak season statistics: 30.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.0 blocks (82-83 season, Jazz)

Career honors: 1st ROY, 2nd second team, 2nd scoring champion, 6th All-Star

Triple Fat Brief Comment: It was the management that couldn't stand Dantley's weak leadership ability, and finally chose to rebuild the team with Stockton and Malone as the core. Otherwise, this classic duo may not be able to become Salt Lake City's golden signature in the past 20 years! We can't help but sigh: If Dantley can continue to assist Utah's two evil players, maybe these three can successfully win the O'Brien Cup...

Power forward: Karl Malone

Two partners team: Utah Jazz

Duo partnership time: 18 seasons (85 -86, 86-87, 87-88, 88-89, 89-90, 90-91, 91-92, 92-93, 93-94, 94-95, 95-96, 96-97, 97-98, 98-99, 99-00, 00-01, 01-02, 02-03)

Data during partnership period: 25.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.8 blocks

Peak season statistics: 31.0 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.6 blocks (89-90 season, Jazz)

Career honors: 2nd M VP, 2-time AMVP, 11-time first team, 2-time second team, 1-time third team, 3-time first defense, 1-time second defense, 14-time All-Star

Brief comment on the three fat men: The so-called Boya period is not an exaggeration to describe Utah’s two evils. After all, it is Stockton and Malone, the 18-year old partners, who can elevate the pick-and-roll tactics to such a high level! A championship ring can complete these 18 years of teammate friendship.. But is there anything truly perfect in this world? For both of them, how could being the uncrowned king not be a kind of praise?

Center: Mark Eaton

Partner team: Utah Jazz

Duo partnership time: 9 seasons (84-85, 85-86, 86-87 , 87-88, 88-89, 89-90, 90-91, 91-92, 92-93)

Data during partnership: 6.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, 3.4 blocks Caps

Peak season statistics: 9.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.4 steals, 5.6 blocks (84-85 season, Jazz)

Career honors: 2 DPOY, 3 1st defense, 2nd defense, 4th block leader, 1st All-Star

Three fat comments: Unlike Malone, Stockton has a short-term F4 experience with the Lakers, so the best center he has ever partnered with in his career is none other than "Mammoth" Eaton. It’s not that I look down on Eaton as a player, but compared with O’Neal who was partnered by Malone, Eaton is not even a little bit worse... As a blue-collar center, Eaton has achieved the ultimate among blue-collar players! The two DPOY trophies are beyond the reach of the Sharks!

Replacement lineup:

Power forward: Tom Chambers

Double partnership team: Utah Jazz

Duo partnership duration: 2 seasons (93-94, 94-95)

Data during partnership period: 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, 0.4 blocks Caps

Peak season statistics: 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.6 blocks (89-90 season, Suns)

Career honors: 1-time AMVP, 2-time second team, 4-time All-Star

Three Fat Brief Comments: When he came to the Jazz, Chambers knew his position very well, which was to be a substitute for Karl Malone. Therefore, it is difficult for Chambers to return to the master of violent aesthetics... Fortunately, Chambers only played for the Jazz for two seasons, which does not mean he has insulted his reputation as a legendary star...

Power forward: Andrei Kirilenko

Team of partnership: Utah Jazz

Duration of partnership: 2 seasons (01-02, 02-03)

Data during partnership: 11.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.5 steals, 2.0 blocks

Peak season statistics: 16.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.9 steals, 2.8 blocks (03-04 season, Jazz)

Career honors: 1st first defense, 2nd second defense, 1st block champion, 1st All-Star

Brief comment on the three fat players: Kirilenko, who excels in defense, is not so outstanding on the offensive end... He combines the stability of European players and the strength of American players. Although his body looks a bit frail, his tough style in the interior often brings unexpected help to the team. But most of the help is concentrated on the defensive end... Kirilenko, who lacks offensive means, has poor mid- and long-range shooting skills and can only rely more on breakthroughs to cause damage..

Shooting guard: Jeff Malone

Team of the two partners: Utah Jazz

Duration of the two partners: 4 seasons (90-91, 91-92, 92-93, 93-94)

Data during the partnership period: 18.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.9 rebounds Assists, 0.6 steals, 0.1 blocks

Peak season statistics: 24.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.1 blocks (89-90 season, Bullets)

Career honors: 2nd All-American Star

Brief comment on Three Fats: The backcourt duo of Jeff Malone and Stockton helped the Jazz dominate the Western Conference and reach the finals for a period of time. Malone grew into a pure scorer under Sloan's training and was selected to the All-Star twice! It's a pity that the opponent they have to face is the Chicago Bulls led by Jordan and Pippen... Without Jordan, maybe that era would have become a scene of heroes competing for the throne!

Power forward: Danny Manning

Partner team: Utah Jazz

Duo partnership time: 1 season (00-01)

Data during partnership: 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.4 steals, 0.4 blocks

Peak season statistics: 22.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists , 1.4 steals, 1.3 blocks (92-93 season, Clippers)

Career honors: 1-time SMOY, 2-time All-Star

Three fat comments: Injuries and the wrong team made this nationally famous genius in college finally fall into the world... Manning, who struggled with injuries early in his career, finally made a name for himself with the Clippers, but finally left his comfort zone because of a management that couldn't retain people. Subsequently, Manning continued to suffer from injuries and could never return to his peak. Even though he sacrificed himself in the later period and was elected as the Best Sixth Man, this was far from the expectations of the outside world during the No. 1 pick...

Swingman: Kelly Tripucka

Team of partnership: Utah Jazz

Duration of partnership: 2 seasons (86-87, 87-88)

Data during partnership: 9.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.1 blocks

Peak season statistics: 26.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.6 steals, 0.3 blocks (82-83 season, Pistons)

Career honors: 2-time All-American Celebrity

Three Fatty Brief Comments: Tripka’s comments have been introduced in detail in the previous episode of Karl Malone’s former teammates. Interested viewers can move to the previous episode: Who has the best lineup of former teammates in his career? (Karl Malone), I won’t go into details here..

Shooting guard: John Starks

Partner team: Utah Jazz

Duration of partnership: 2 seasons (00-01, 01-02)

Data during partnership: 7.0 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.1 blocks

Peak season statistics: 19.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.6 steals, 0.1 blocks (93-94 season, Knicks)

Career honors: 1st SMOY, 1st second defense, 1st All-Star

Three Fat Brief Comments: At what point do you have your impression of Starks? Is it the moment when Starks dunked on basketball god Michael Jordan in the playoffs? Or was it the embarrassing moment when he made 0 of 10 shots in the last quarter of the finals and gave up the championship? This defender who relied on defense to establish himself in the league once ranked 4th in the DPOY rankings! He has won the love of a large number of fans with his fearless style.

Point guard: Ricky Green

Partner team: Utah Jazz

Duration of partnership: 4 seasons (84-85, 85-86, 86-87, 87-88)

Data during partnership: 9.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.0 blocks Cap

Peak season statistics: 14.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 8.9 assists, 2.8 steals, 0.1 blocks (82-83 season, Jazz)

Career honors: 1 steal king, 1 All-Star

Three Fats Brief Comment: As the core master of Salt Lake City before the arrival of Stockton, one word to describe Green's career is conscientious. This solid point guard slowly grew into an All-Star player with his solid basic skills and excellent professionalism. However, the All-Star is the limit that Green can reach... After emerging in Stockton, Green soon left the Jazz, where he had played for 8 years.

So the above is the best lineup of former teammates that John Stockton has played with in his career. I wonder what you guys think about this?
