Will Brownie enter the Lakers rotation next season? Executive: Do two things to play 10-15 minutes per game

Browne, the son of Lakers star James, has few chances to play in his rookie season, but his growth has been recognized by many people. On June 1, an executive from the Western Conference was optimistic that Brownie would become a regular rotation member of the Lakers in the new season, and believed that as long as Brownie did two things well, he would get 10-15 minutes of playing time per game.

"I have no doubt that this is their plan," the executive said of the Lakers' idea that Brownie will enter the rotation next season. "I know this kid has suffered a lot of controversy because of his father's identity, but we have watched a lot of videos of Brownie's game. The fact is that his performance in April this year is much better than in October or even July last year."

The executive also predicted that Brownie will become the Lakers' "regular rotation player" next season and get a stable playing time.

"He is only 20 years old," the executive said. "He has been completely disrupted in his development pace over the past year. But he can defend the outside and prove that he can shoot three points. If he can prove that it is not accidental, he can get 10 to 15 minutes of playing time every night because the team will feel trusted. I think he can do both things (defense and three-point shooting) and will be a regular rotation for the team next season."

In the 2024-25 G League journey, Brownie played a total of 18 games, averaging 18 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists, shooting 41.5% from the field and 33.6% from three-pointers. He also contributed some impressive scoring performances to make Lakers fans realize that he was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, not just because of who his father is.

Brownie scored more than 23 points in five games in the G League season, and in March this year, he scored a season-high 39 points and made 14 of 22 shots to help the team win.

The 20-year-old is indeed expected to win a spot in Redick's rotation, but it may not be easy as he has to prove he's ready to be a reliable team puzzle. No matter how Brownie's sophomore season goes, no matter what role he plays with the Lakers, the most important thing is that he can continue to polish his ball skills and is not satisfied with his existing achievements.
