Amorin: When playing away from Manchester City, the mentality should be consistent with playing Greensby, so we can control the game

September 13th, 23:30 tomorrow, the fourth round of the Premier League will start the Manchester City derby. Before the game, Manchester United coach Amorin accepted an interview with Manchester United's official website.

Ruben, first of all, I would like to ask about the situation during the international match day, what are you busy with?

Amorin: Very fulfilling. I re-watched the game video, focusing on several recent matchups with Manchester City and trying to design some tactical positioning for the players. Especially in the event of injury, plans must be made in advance so that the team can adapt to various situations. So this is a regular break, accompanying the children on weekends and sending them to school, but always thinking about the next game.

For the coach, it is always an anxiety-prone time to wait for players to return to the team on international match days. What are the current situation of the players? How is the team in the same state as we prepare to play away against Manchester City on Sunday?

Amorin: The only player in question is Dalot, and the other players are in good shape, but now it is urgent to get the players to put on the right mindset. It will be a tough battle, but our performance has improved significantly in the recent past, which gives the team confidence to win and we are ready.

Recent reports and analysis articles have pointed out that the actual performance data of the team you coach is better than the results reflected. Are these deep data encouraging you about the future? Does this prove that we are heading in the right direction?

Amorin: It is important to show the players these data. But we also combine data with actual performance analysis. In fact, we could have played better against Fulham and should still be in the League Cup. Today we also showed the players these analyses to make everyone realize that there is still a long way to go. We know how important this derby is to fans, so of course we will use data to prove to the players that we are improving, but the issue of goal efficiency is indeed a shortcoming in the early game.

As fans, we always pay special attention to Manchester City Derby. This is of great significance to fans, both at home and away, and what is rare recently is that we currently rank higher than our opponents in the league. How do you view Manchester City’s current tactical style? What challenges will they bring to the weekend clash?

Amorin: The primary goal is to let the players build the belief that our mentality against Manchester City should be consistent with that against Greensby. That's our goal to treat every game with the same mindset. So this is indeed another important game, but it should be like this every week in theory.

Manchester City's style of play focuses on ball control, and its offense is varied and difficult to put pressure on. But we are more focused on our own team building. We have a defensive strategy that can adapt to different systems, and we must control the ball, which is very important: we play by passing and we have proved this in previous games. Therefore, when facing Manchester City, we cannot just think about defensive counterattacks or try our luck. No, we can completely control the ball and control the game, and we will do our best to do this.
