Conte led Napoli to regain the Serie A championship championship this season, and his former boss Tottenham Hotspur, who happened to be coaching, also broke the 17-year championship drought. Looking back on that year, Conte admitted that when he was coaching at Tottenham, he was greatly affected by the deaths of his friends around him.
Antonio Conte coached Tottenham in November 2021 and chose to leave the team more than a year later. In his first season as he coached, he led the team to defeat his old rival Arsenal and qualified for the Champions League, but at the time he felt that the goals of both sides were different. "I remember that the team was qualified for the Champions League next season, and the celebration was like celebrating the Premier League championship. I told them that it would be better not to get used to this kind of celebration. We should be used to celebrating completely different things."
Tottenham finally won the UEFA Europa League this season, breaking the 17-year championship drought. Conte was highly expected when he was introduced, but a series of personal tragedies happened around him: "At that time, I signed a one-and-a-half contract to see how far I could lead the team, but all kinds of things happened that year. Ventola died of leukemia and passed away in just 15 days, which caused a huge blow to my psychology because we have such a deep relationship."
"At the same time, Viali also passed away. A month ago, my wife and I met him in a restaurant. He looked calm at that time, but he also felt something was wrong. Mihailovic also passed away at that time." Conte added.
