Liverpool and Chelsea transfer targets Malik Fofana is also Nottingham Forest's number one target, which has reportedly reached an agreement with Lyon to sign the winger.

Fofana will leave the club this summer after Lyon is relegated to the French League, but he is expected to leave the club anyway.

Lion was downgraded last week due to failure to repay its debts. They have appealed the decision but are still likely to remain in the Ligue 1 league.

If relegated, several key players will leave, of which Fofana is considered their most valuable asset.

The 20-year-old Belgian winger scored 11 goals and contributed 6 assists in the 2024/25 season, helping Lyon qualify for the Europa League – despite relegation, they will still be in the Europa League.

Several European giants are linked to Fofana, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Naples.

Bayern is eager to sign a new left winger and is also linked to Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, who is expected to join Barcelona despite all interest in him.

Fofana is a wanted man, and although Forest has reached an agreement with Lyon, the player has not agreed to personal terms.

This is Fabrizio Romano's statement, who said Fabrizio is "waiting for the Champions League club" because Chelsea is interested in him.

Romano wrote on X: "Nottingham Forest has reached an agreement with Lyon Olympics for Malik Fofana's transfer...but the players have not yet reached an agreement.

"Fofana is waiting for the Champions League club and Chelsea is still interested in the player.

"As far as I understand, Bayern and Naples have also called for preliminary contact."

At the same time, the Forests renewed their contract with full-back Necko Williams.

Williams has made 107 appearances for City Stadium Club since joining from Liverpool in 2022.

The 24-year-old said: "The club has made great progress in recent years and I am proud to be involved.

"Everyone knows how ambitious our boss is, and I am grateful for his trust in me and the club. The future is exciting. ”

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis added: “Nottingham Forest is a club for ambitious players; these players want to grow with us and create special memories on our exciting journey.

"Internal Medicine has a common vision with us. He is very compatible with the development direction of the club. He is a key member of our team."
