Old Trafford welcomes old friends! De Gea returns on Saturday, fans: Stay him and send Onana away

Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea has played for Manchester United for more than ten years. He left the team while Eric Tenhager coached the Premier League club in 2023.

This week, Manchester United will welcome the return of goalkeeper David De Gea at Old Trafford - two years after he left the team. The Spaniard sent a message to the fans on the eve of his return.

The former Atletico Madrid star left the team after his contract expired in 2023 and joined Florence a year later. Purple Lily will visit Manchester on Saturday to compete in Manchester United's last warm-up match before the new season - and this day happens to be the first anniversary of De Gea's joining the Tuscan team.

"Road to Manchester United. See you on Saturday," De Gea wrote on social media. His message received a positive response from Manchester United fans, and some fans even said that they hoped that De Gea would return more than the current goalkeeper candidate.

"After the game, we won't let you leave Old Trafford. Fiorentina can take (Andre) Onana away." A fan commented under De Gea's message.

"Welcome home, Dave." Another fan wrote, and the third said, "We miss you." Another said, "I'm glad to see you play again. The club treated you too badly."

De Gea's old club hopes to end the unbeaten preseason journey with a victory. Ruben Amorim's side won two wins and one draw in the Premier League summer series held in the United States after Stockholm and Leeds.

However, there is still room for improvement in the last 2-2 draw with Everton, which has also sparked doubts from captain Bruno Fernandez. Ruben Amorim's side hopes to end the preseason with a brilliant performance before the Premier League opening match against Arsenal on August 17. Manchester United's No. 1 goalkeeper Onana may miss the weekend's friendly match with Fiorentina. The Cameroon international is recovering from injury and is optimistic about catching up with the league opening but may still be unable to play against Fiorentina.

"I'm fine and it feels great." Onana said in an interview with NBC during her time in the United States. "The past few weeks are a bit tough, but hopefully I can return at the beginning of the season. I enjoy training with my teammates and we are looking forward to it."

Speaking of this trip to the United States, he added: "We are happy with the progress we are currently doing. We play well and we can score goals, and I'm glad the team's progress. Let's wait and see. I think it's crucial to get a good start against Arsenal and everything is possible after that."
