Scholes: Amorim is heading for dismissal. We were cheated by the Casemiro deal

October 17th. In an exclusive interview, Manchester United legendary stars Scholes and Butt made frank and sharp criticisms of the club’s current situation. They talked about the future of head coach Amorim, the club’s “Manchester City-like” recruitment strategy, the lack of spirit in the youth academy and the ability of many players.

What do you think of the future of head coach Amorim?

Bart: It was only a matter of time before he (Amorim) was fired. I don't see how things can get better. The manager seems to be very obsessed with this style of play and if he continues like this and doesn't win games he won't get the chance to do it again because he will be fired. This is true.

Scholes: If you don't win the game, you (Amorim) will lose your job. Things are moving in that direction now.

The club has now brought in a number of former Manchester City staff, such as Omar Berada and Jason Wilcox. What do you think of this?

Scholes: I don’t think Manchester United should do this. Manchester City have done well over the last decade, so we hope they can bring something to the table, but it may not be what the people at Manchester United want, and it may not be what the fans want. You talk about DNA but no one there now knows what a Manchester United man is. Darren Fletcher (U18 coach) is the only one who knows what it's like to be a Manchester United player.

Bart: This is unbelievable. Now every Manchester City staff member has gone to Manchester United. Real Madrid wouldn't do that to Barcelona and vice versa.

Sir Ratcliffe said that the standards of the youth academy have "really declined". You have been in the youth academy for a long time, what are your views on this?

Butt: I’m tired of hearing people from Manchester United’s academy say ‘it’s not about winning, it’s about the experience’. Of course it's about winning, because if you haven't won anything since you were 13, how can you be expected to win in the first team? You have to develop winners because if you don't you can't play for a big club like Manchester United. This is the biggest problem I've noticed in the academy over the years. If youth training is not about winning, then they are at the wrong football club.

What mistakes do you think the club has made in player transactions? Especially the decision to sell McTominay for 25 million pounds, but spend twice the price to sign Ugarte.

Butt: McTominay will go through fire and water for Manchester United. He understands the DNA of that football club and I guess his salary is 50% lower than the one they brought in (Ugarte), who is nowhere near the level of McTominay. Scott is not the highest-paid player on your team, he won't disrupt the salary structure or the locker room, and you should do whatever it takes to keep him.

Scholes: I'm not saying you can win the Premier League if he's in your midfield every week, but he's the kind of player you always need to have in the team.

How do you evaluate the performance of some senior players in the team, such as Casemiro, Maguire and Luke Shaw?

Scholes: We were deceived by that (Casemiro) deal, and there have been several more deals like this. Shaw, Maguire, Casemiro, they were all great players, but they are now at a stage in their careers where if you are not physically good enough, you will be seen through in the Premier League. They're not physically strong enough, and they're not fast enough. They have slipped to a level where they are unable to cope with the demands required of the Premier League. Every player in the Premier League is an absolute machine. Manchester United are playing with two or three players who simply cannot adapt (to the intensity of the Premier League).

Bart: Real Madrid will not let go of their best player. Varane and Casemiro were incredible players early in their careers. They've achieved a lot more than I have, so it's hard to fault them, but Real Madrid won't sell their top players to European rivals like Manchester United.
