Sky: Watzke will step down as Borussia Dortmund CEO after the November general meeting and become club president

On October 12, Sky Germany reported that Dortmund CEO Watzke will step down after the general membership meeting on November 23.
Dortmund’s current CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke will remain in office until the general meeting on November 23. A spokesperson confirmed the news on Sunday, confirming the Ruhr News report. It is expected that Watzke will be elected president of the club that day.
Watzke, 66, announced in January this year that he intended to resign as chairman of the board of directors of BVB Capital and withdraw from day-to-day operations. There have been reports that this change will occur this fall. However, in order to submit a work report at the general meeting, Watzke still needs to formally serve as CEO until the end of the meeting.
Since 2004, Watzke has served as the general manager of Dortmund. From May 2024, Lars Riken will be responsible for BVB's sports affairs. It is unclear who will speak on behalf of management in the future, but marketing chief Carsten Kramer is likely to be the new spokesperson.
