8:35am, 27 June 2025【Basketball】
On the stage of the Serie A finals, as Bologna swept Brescia with an overwhelming advantage of 3-0 and successfully won the 17th Serie A championship trophy in the team's history, a legend in the basketball world, Marco Belinelli, made a far-reaching decision. In the joy of this victory, he resolutely announced his retirement plan and chose to use a championship trophy as the perfect curtain call for his brilliant career.
Since 2020, Belinelli and Bologna have worked together to reach the top of Serie A twice in five years. This deep friendship and glory has undoubtedly added a strong mark to his basketball career. Bologna, the starting point of his career, has now witnessed his successful conclusion, realizing the perfect transformation from a young boy to a legendary veteran.
Reviewing Belinelli's basketball journey, in 2002, he began his professional basketball career in Bologna. He then went to the ocean and embarked on the journey of the American Professional Basketball League in 2007. He was selected by the Golden State Warriors as the 18th pick in the first round, thus embarking on a 13-year NBA journey. During this journey, he traveled to multiple teams, including the Warriors, Hornets, Bulls, Spurs, Kings, Hawks and Philadelphia, and played in 860 regular season games, averaging 9.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, and a three-point shooting percentage of 37.6%. On the playoff stage, he performed well, averaging 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, and his three-point shooting percentage remained at a high of 37.5%.
Among them, the 2013-2014 season was undoubtedly the most shining moment in Belinelli's career. That season, he not only averaged 11.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in the regular season, and averaged 1.6 three-pointers with a 43% three-point shooting percentage, but also won the All-Star three-point competition and won the NBA championship with the Spurs, becoming the first Italian player in history to win the NBA championship. This series of honors and achievements undoubtedly added endless glory to his career.
After learning about Belinelli's retirement, the Spurs' official Twitter quickly sent sincere blessings and respects. As the last stop of Belinelli's NBA career, he played for the Spurs for four seasons, leaving a deep mark. According to statistics, his NBA career salary totaled $49.44 million, of which the highest annual salary was about $7 million (2017-18 season). Although his three-year, $19 million contract signed with the Kings in the summer of 2015 failed to catch up with the good times of soaring salary, he has already left an indelible mark in basketball history with his superb shooting skills and outstanding contributions.
Now, with the retirement of Belinelli, we cannot help but pay the highest respect and blessings to him. The glorious journey of this legendary Spurs shooter will be remembered forever in the history of basketball, inspiring latecomers to keep moving forward and pursuing excellence. At least, he is expected to win an annual salary contract worth up to tens of millions of dollars. So, all the fans, what do you think and comment about the player Belinelli? Please speak freely in the comment section and actively communicate each other's views. Here, we sincerely congratulate this 39-year-old veteran on his successful opening of a new chapter in his life!
