May 26th News Recently, the Bulls reporter Austin McGee wrote an article about Yang Hansen, who believes that the team can try to choose him with the No. 45 pick. The following is some of the content.
###Offensive end
Young is closer to Nikola Jokic and Shin Kyung's style. He usually does his homework with his back to the basket. It's obvious that he's more comfortable playing in the low post, scoring both left and right hands, and has a range of traditional low post techniques such as shaking, turning and hooking.
Young is not outstanding with 2.8 assists per game, but he is an excellent passer, both in the low post and in the elbow area. In the joint trial, his pass was impressive, not from the low post, but a rebound pass from the outside that crossed the crowd, demonstrating his excellent prediction ability.
When seeing Yang's flying roaming in the field, it is easy for people to compare him to Jokic and Shin Kyung. Although he has 3.1 turnovers per game, his willingness to pass is quite mature at this age. In addition, in the NBA, Young's assists are likely to increase, as CBA teammates often stand still when he holds the ball.
Although there are fewer and fewer low-post cores in the NBA, Young's performance in the pick-and-roll is portable. As a 7-foot-2-inch (2.18-meter) big man, he has a soft feel and can hit the basket well after catching the ball. However, he has trouble scoring in short pick-and-roll situations, especially near the free throw line. At this stage, his passes in short pick-and-roll are even better.
Yang's shooting is still in the theoretical stage because his shooting posture is not beautiful and smooth enough, but he is full of confidence. Even more worrying is his 67.7% free throw percentage, which makes people worried that he may never be a threatening shooter.
#### Defensive end
Yang's defense in the CBA is a highlight of him. The 19-year-old averaged 8.5 defensive rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 0.7 steals per game in the 2023-24 season, winning the CBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. His huge body and good mobility make him a powerful threat in a league with lack of physical confrontation and top athletes.
Yang seemed a little overwhelmed when defending the outside and pick-and-roll. He performed well as the last line of defense and defender, but he seemed out of place on the outside. The defenders often easily break through the 7-foot-2 center.
Yang seemed a little lazy on the defensive end, usually standing upright and failing to enter a good defensive posture. This lax position often leads the defender to easily bypass him. Although he is not a defensive versatile, he seems to be comfortable in retreating and being the last line of defense. He can block shots well when he is able to keep his opponent in front of him and use his huge size to stop the opponent from breaking to the basket.
### Young's fit with the Chicago Bulls
The 7-foot-2-inch big man has gone from being unpopular to a potential first-round rookie. However, his most likely destination is the second round. Therefore, it is possible that he was selected by the Bulls at the 45th pick (the Bulls also have the No. 12 pick). ESPN ranked Young at No. 67, while Yahoo Sports ranked him at No. 45, coincidentally comparing him to Nikola Vucevic.
Like Vucevic, Young will clearly fit the team coached by Donovan. He can be a partner in high-level hubs and pick-and-roll/outer shots, with the Bulls’ numerous defenders. Although his shots are not ideal, he offers a variety of low-post scores similar to Vucevic.
Young's biggest contribution in the Chicago joint trial was on the defensive end. The Bulls lack strong blockers have been on the issue. 6-foot-10-inch rookie forward Boozelis is currently the Bulls' blocking champion. Even if he only plays 15 minutes per game, Young may be ranked second or even first in total blocks. However, as a 19-year-old big man, Young will likely spend her first season here in the Development League, adapting to the speed and physical confrontation of the NBA. Young's skills are fine, but his ability to handle the ball, effort and defensive diversity will be rigorously examined.
