Riyadh victory lights up red light: AFC Champions League is eliminated, may miss Asian events next season
9:42am, 8 May 2025【Football】
Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a blow, and his Riyadh victory was unexpectedly lost to the Kawasaki striker, who was considered weak in the AFC Champions League semi-finals, and was eliminated.
This loss not only makes Ronaldo's future unpredictable, but also puts Riyadh's victory at the risk of missing the Asian tournament next season.
After the May 1 defeat, Ronaldo wrote on social media: "Sometimes, dreams need to wait" to comfort himself.
The Portuguese superstar left a moving picture on the court: he sat on the lawn, holding his head with his hands, looking extremely upset. The former Manchester United star was seen blaming himself for dozens of seconds, reflecting the helplessness he showed in the face of a bumpy road since he set foot on Saudi Arabia.
According to the Ass, the original contract renewal of Ronaldo and Riyadh's victory seemed to be about to be completed, but this setback in the AFC Champions League casts a layer of uncertainty on Ronaldo's future.
What is even more worrying is that Riyadh victory is facing the crisis of not being able to participate in Asian events next season.
Currently, there are only three places in the AFC Champions League. If the Jeddah Nationals win the league championship this season, they will receive a direct place so that only two places remain in the Saudi league are allocated to the top-ranked teams in the domestic league. Currently, Riyadh victory ranks third in the league, trailing Riyadh Crescent and Jeddah United by 2 points and 8 points respectively.
Worse, if Alcaticia wins the Saudi King's Cup (the final will be held in joint May 9 with Jeddah), they will be eligible for the AFC Cup (Asian Division II event). In this case, Riyadh victory will completely miss the Asian arena next season.
C Ronaldo has not won any championship since winning the race for Riyadh.
