Telegraph: Even if many Manchester United players leave the team, they still have to pay part of their salary

Manchester United may face an embarrassing financial reality this summer: in order to send away some players outside the main players, the club may have to bear huge wage subsidies, even if these players transfer to competitors.

As Amorin makes drastic adjustments to the roster, several players including Rashford, Garnacho and Anthony are no longer in the team's plan. Although both of their contracts with the club were signed in 2028, Manchester United expects to provide some salary support for their departure.

Garacho was photographed wearing a jersey with the name Rashford this week, a move that undoubtedly further demonstrates his attitude towards where he will go. Previously, coach Amorin had "hidden" Rashford last season and eventually loaned him to Aston Villa.

Currently, Garnacho, Rashford and Anthony's contracts will last until 2028, and Manchester United will likely need to continue to bear some of their salary when they transfer or loan. In addition, Sancho will also be allowed to leave the team, and he has been loaned to Dortmund and Chelsea in the past two seasons.

According to people familiar with the matter, Chelsea considered converting Sancho's loan to a permanent transfer last season, but the negotiations eventually broke down because the proportion of salary Manchester United is willing to bear has not been agreed. When Sancho joined Dortmund for £73 million, his weekly salary exceeded £200,000.

Manchester United hopes to achieve a certain "salary recovery" through loan transactions, but industry intermediaries believe that because the club is obviously eager to get rid of these players, their bargaining power in negotiations has been greatly weakened.

Rashford was not included in the match list all season before being loaned to Villa and took the opportunity to regain the call for the England national team. He made it clear in an interview with Spanish media last week that he hoped to join Barcelona. Although Tottenham and other teams are also looking for a winger candidate, it seems that Barcelona is still his first choice.

Ganacho was told by Amorin after the end of last season that he could find another boss. As for Anthony, he has been loaned to Real Betis in the 2024/25 season and is expected to transfer again.

Interestingly, Spanish sources said that Manchester United is discussing with Betis that some of Anthony's registration rights are retained, which is actually equivalent to retaining a share clause in future transfers. Manchester United can still benefit from it if Anthony is sold again in the future.

Previously, Betis had already paid 84% of Anthony's salary, while Rashford also had 75% of his salary during his time in Villa, and could also be increased to 90% based on his performance.

It is not clear whether these out-of-favorite players will go to the United States to participate in the preseason tour with the team. In 2019, Lukaku was also close to leaving the team, but he still visited the United States with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.

Danish striker Rasmus Hoylen's future also has uncertainty, and Inter Milan has shown interest in him. The forward also signed with Manchester United until 2028 and has a similar renewal option to Anthony.

As for Sancho, he has one year left on his contract, but the club has the right to activate a one-year renewal clause to avoid his free departure next year.
