Before that, Djokovic faced Corentin Moutet or Marin Cilic in the opening match. In case they pass the first two rounds, Nole's next obstacles could be Frances Tiafoe in round three, Andrey Rublev in round four and Ben Shelton or Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals.

Last year, Djokovic reached the final and lost to Sinner in Shanghai. This year, Nole continued to lose to Italian players in the semi-finals of Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Shanghai Masters is Djokovic's first event after the US Open, where the Serbian player lost in the semi-finals to Carlos Alcaraz.

World number two Sinner begins his journey to defend his throne with a duel with Daniel Altmaier or a player who qualifies. Sinner is not expected to face many difficulties until round four, where he is likely to encounter the in-form Alexander Bublik. If he wins against Bublik, the face waiting for Sinner in the quarterfinals could be Taylor Fritz or Holger Rune.

In the upper bracket, Alcaraz's potential opponents are Learner Tien, Cameron Norrie, Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur. If he reaches the semi-finals, Alcaraz can meet Alexander Zverev.

The Shanghai Masters main round includes 96 players, starting Wednesday, October 1, of which 32 seeded players are exempt from the first round. Besides the top names, this year's tournament also missed some players such as Jack Draper, Grigor Dimitrov, Joao Fonseca or Gael Monfils.

The event was hosted at the Qizhong Forest complex in Shanghai. The final will take place on Sunday, October 12, with a reward of 1.12 million USD for the champion.

Immediately after the event in China, six major players, Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner, Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Stefanos Tsitsipas, will fly to Saudi Arabia to attend the Six Kings Slam with a total prize money of 13.5 million USD.
